My Characters

Updated: Jan 5

When I shared my characters online a few months ago, several people asked me who drew them. They were shocked to learn it was me.

Having a vivid imagination, I can truly see each of my characters as they walk through the pages of my novel. Wanting to help my readers do the same, I decided to draw each one.

Prepping

I looked online for pictures of body types, faces and clothing that would match the images that were dancing in my head. I even asked my daughters to pose for a few pictures. I collated bits and pieces to bring each character to life, and created a series of models to work from.

Drawing

I bought a tablet and stylus pen, downloaded ProCreate, and started to have fun. Each character took about 10 hours to complete, and I enjoyed every minute of the process. I also got a kick out of creating my first-ever animation.

A family affair

My husband and daughters were indispensable. They helped me find the perfect pictures, gave me tips on using the ProCreate software, and provided feedback throughout the process.

Would I do it again?

Definitely! Let’s just say that it’s a great way to keep busy while you wait to hear back from potential publishers...
